CLITHEROE’S Jon Schofield and Liam Heath picked up a silver medal in the second round of the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Duisburg.
Schofield and Heath clocked the second fastest time ever in the K2 200m semi final and were in confident mood going in to the final.
In a tight fight for the line, the Russian pairing of Postrigay and Dyachenko sneaked in front, leaving the British duo with the silver medal ahead of world champions Jouve and Hybois.
Schofield said: “We had a perfect race and were really happy to beat the French who have been the bench mark for the last two years. The Russian crew reformed this year and were on great form. We are satisfied we are getting faster, we just need to peak again now for the Europeans.”
