SAWLEY’s Jon Schofield will look to raise the Olympic stakes over the next few days as he bids to build on a stunning start to the season.
The East Lancashire canoeist partnered Liam Heath to a silver medal at the first World Cup event in Poland and now looks to go one better in Duisberg, Germany, this weekend.
Schofield, 26, has also officially been named in GB’s Olympic canoe sprint team in the K2 200M and is now looking to set the standards at World Cup 2.
The former Clitheroe Royal Grammar School student and team mate Heath will look to replicate their Polish performances in Duisberg – in a bid to cement their position as medal contenders.
Looking ahead to the weekend’s racing, Brendan Purcell, Head Coach said: “We are looking forward to another weekend of racing, the 200m boys will be going out to keep challenging the standard ahead of London.
“The women’s K4 are back on the start line for the first time since last year’s World Championships and will be using the race to get a good bench marker for where there are. “For the K1’s it is another chance to work on race plans and monitor their development and it’s the last in the three race selection series for the men’s K1 1000m. Everyone is in good shape and keen to get back out to race.”
