TWO of Lowerhouse’s cricketing Hope family are set to walk for 12 miles and take in 11 pubs in a bid to raise money for the Pendleside Hospice.
Nick Hope, who played 225 games for the House, and brother Jez, who took to the field 346 times, are setting off on the stroll around the Pendle countryside next month and are appealing for sponsors.
Nick, 46, is relishing the walk, which takes place on the reserve date for the second round of the Worsley Cup on Saturday, June 16, and is more than happy to boost the coffers of the Reedley-based hospice.
“The lure of a lovely 12-mile walk around the Pendle countryside was an opportunity too good to miss,” he said. “And to raise money for such a worthwhile and fantastic cause was just the icing on the cake.
“I am sure that most people are aware of the care and comfort the hospice brings to its patients and families alike during the most difficult times and of the £3.5 million pounds it takes to run the hospice only 25 per cent of this is funded by the local Primary Care Trust, the rest has to be self generated.”
