BACUP skipper David Warren says reigning Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse will want to fly out of the blocks tomorrow – and grab a bit of revenge for 12 months ago.
Few would have imagined on the opening day last season that the House would go on and lift the crown, especially as Bacup demolished the Burnley side for just 47.
But they overcame that to roar to only their second league title.
And Warren reckons tomorrow’s repeat at Lanehead will have that bit of extra spice because of 12 months ago.
“I think they might remember that one,” laughed Warren. “It was a great day for us – and I think they might want a spot of revenge.
“But we won’t think about last year.”
Ramsbottom look strong and they entertain Todmorden at Acre Bottom.
Rammy skipper Jonathan Fielding is determined to try and regain the title and said: “We go into the season feeling confident.
“It can be tough to go into a season as champions, everyone wants to try and put one over you.
“Lowerhouse, as good as side as they are, are not used to that position.”
Ramsbottom have signed prolific South African Pieter Malan as pro for this year – and big things are expected after his run feast in the Northern League for Barrow last term. His 1,053 set a new record for the Cumbrians and Fielding said: “His record speaks for itself.
“He could be really good for us this year.”
Accrington skipper Jimmy Hayhurst is banned for the first two matches and will be a frustrated spectator as his side host East Lancs.
“I am not the best at watching,” he said.
Haslingden skipper Graham Knowles has high hopes of his pro Harry Boam after the young Kiwi starred at Settle two years ago.
They start at home to Burnley, who have star spinner Bharat Tripathi back in their ranks after a season as professional at Liverpool.
Nelson have rebuilt over the winter and begin at home to Rishton, while Colne give a debut to former Nelson skipper Khurram Nazir against Enfield.
“He is a great signing for us,” said skipper Matt Wilson. “Khurram is one of the best, if not the best, all-rounders in the league.”
