ACCRINGTON star Nikki Foster is relishing the prospect of another successful season on the amateur circuit after clinching her first title of 2012.
The 20-year-old Pleasington star was the joint winner of the Hampshire Rose last weekend after carding a one-under-par 145 at the 36-hole scratch event.
She had to share the title with Remedy Oak’s Georgia Hall after both enjoyed fine second rounds at chilly North Hants Golf Club.
Foster carded an afternoon 70 after earlier shooting 75, while Curtis Cup reserve Hall put up scores of 76 and 69.
It was an excellent display from Foster who began the year by finishing runner-up in the Murcia Ladies’ Championship.
The England and Lancashire ace, pictured left, will now focus her attention on the Helen Holm Scottish strokeplay championship at Troon that begins next Friday, an event she finished runner-up at in 2010.
“I could have won that a couple of years ago,” said Foster. “I wasn’t far off but, hopefully, I can do well again there. I’m really looking forward to it.”
On her win in Hampshire, she added: “It was nice to get that first win at the weekend because it gives me a lot of confidence for the year ahead.
“It was a strong field but I played really well.
“I’m happy with the way I’m playing at the moment and hopefully I will have a good year.”
Foster, the daughter of Lancashire stalwart Trevor Foster, enjoyed her greatest achievement last year when she qualified for the Women’s British Open at Carnoustie in Scotland.
