TERRY McPhillips believes his Rovers starlets can take inspiration from seeing Chelsea silence Lionel Messi this week – as they look to snuff out the Blues’ own wonder kid.
Rovers under 18s are at Stamford Bridge for the FA Youth Cup final first leg this evening, just days after Barcelona’s Champions League semi final, as they bid to win the trophy for the first time since 1959.
After beating their lower league rivals Burnley in a two-legged semi final, Rovers go into the final as underdogs against an expensive Chelsea outfit.
Brazilian winger Lucas Piazon cost Chelsea in the region of £5mwhen he signed from Sao Paulo last year and Rovers boss McPhillips admits he is one they have to watch.
He said: “He is a very good player. We know we have to stop this lad, he cost a fortune but he isn’t the only one.
“Just a few days ago, Chelsea stopped the best player in the world in Lionel Messi. They showed what you can do if you prepared.
“We now have to stop their star players.
“I don’t think the lads get nervous. They are all excited about what is ahead.”
