BURNLEY YTH 4
BLACKPOOL YTH 0 BURNLEY booked their place in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup final next month thanks to a comfortable win over Blackpool at Turf Moor tonight.
Fresh from reaching the FA Youth cup semi-final for the first time in 34 years - knocked out by rivals Blackburn Rovers in the end - the young Clarets made no mistake against the Tangerines.
The game was slow to get going, but Burnley didn't look back after taking a 20th minute lead from the penalty spot.
It was a generous decision by the referee, as Jason Gilchrist looked to have over-run the ball when he was clipped in the box.
But Steven Hewitt didn't waste his opportunity from the spot.
Shay McCartan threatened a second after weaving his way inside from the left, beating two defenders before cutting the ball back, only for midfielder Curtis Thompson to scramble clear.
But the Clarets doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time.
Adam Evans latched onto Hewitt's throughball and coolly slipped the ball beyond advancing keeper Elliott Tarney.
Blackpool felt they should have had a penalty, or at least be playing against 10 men for the remainder of the game after last man Alex Coleman brought down Alex Addai.
Instead the defender received a yellow card and the Seasiders had to settle for a free kick a yard out side the area, which Josh Cook saved.
McCartan made it 3-0 after getting a lucky break from a ricochet off the Tarney and slotting into an empty net.
Evans wrapped the game up in the 90th minute, again executing another classy finish after benefiting from Hewitt's clever delivery.
The Clarets will meet Preston North End at Deepdale in the final, on May 2.
