BLACKBURN Rovers youth team boss Terry McPhillips has urged his side to learn from past mistakes as he looks for a return to top form this evening.
McPhillips admits his young side were below par in last Thursday’s FA Youth Cup semi final first leg win over Burnley at Ewood Park - but is confident they will be ready for the Turf Moor challenge ahead.
Only Adam Henley had played in a bigger crowd than the 10,000 plus who watched last week’s Ewood tie, with another bumper attendance expected at Turf this evening.
And McPhillips has backed his starlets to use last week’s experience to their advantage as they look to win the competition for the first time since 1959.
McPhillips said: “It is football and you have to learn fast. The boys have to learn quickly that it is going to be an exciting atmosphere and I’m sure they will because they are all good lads. They have had a cracking season so far and have improved through the season.
“They are learning all the time and on Thursday we just didn’t do as well as we know we can. We would have taken 1-0 though, we are delighted with that.
“We will make sure we learn from the mistakes we made. We made a few mistakes and we will try and play better football.
“It was electrifying on Thursday, the best crowd I have ever been involved in in football. I have been to lots of games and that was like a proper FA Cup game between two local rivals.
