PAUL Keys has racked up an incredible 100 successive games for promotion chasing Rossendale – the first time any player has achieve the feat in the club’s history.
The all-action hooker made it two a century of starts for the Marl Pits side in the 44-24 victory over Morley.
Manager of rugby Simon Bond paid tribute to the front row forward and hopes he keeps up his run.
“It is the first time anyone at the club has played 100 concecutive games for the club and it is quite an incredible feat,” said Bond.
“Rugby is a physical game and the front row especially so to be able to play so many games without injury makes it quite a special moment.”
Keys only joined the National League Three North side two years ago from Sedgley Park but wracked up a ton of games in next to no time.
“Paul puts his body on the line week after week but he is a fit lad and he looks after himself.”
Meanwhile, Rossendale go in to Saturday’s crunch clash with Chester in buoyant mood after they sealed an emphatic win thanks to three late second half tries.
The first half was a mixed bag for both sides. Both sides had plenty of possession in the opposing 22 and looked threatening.
After the team’s exchanged penalties, Steve Nutt converting for Dale, the home side ran in three first half tries through Jamie Albinson who darting over following a jinking run, Leyton Taylor l and James Bramhall, on his second game back from injury. Danny Collins scored the first of his two early in the second half, which was converted by Nutt.
But Morley hit back with several penalties and an interception try to tie the score.
But this galvanised the home side to tighten up, play more phase rugby and in short it worked.
Tries followed from Johan Goosen and second scores from Collins and Albinson.
