During the build up to Saturday’s game I convinced myself that we could not lose.
I was so sure that the combination of our new manager Paul Cook and Plymouth’s bottom of the table position would guarantee three points for the Reds.
So sure was I that I placed a bet on Stanley to win. This is the first time I have bet on the Reds since a Carling Cup tie away at Watford where, once again, emotion got the better of my wallet.
The scene was set, the sun shone, but Plymouth failed to read the script, taking the lead in the third minute when Burnley loanee Alex MacDonald found the back of the net for the first of his brace on the day.
Plymouth had six shots on goal and scored four of them. We did not gift them all their goals, but we certainly helped them!
We are in a period of transition and we must look past the next few games, win, lose or draw to get the right impression of how Paul wants his team to play.
One bright spark in the day was Paul’s first signing Jamie Devitt who has a look of quality about him.
So onto tonight’s trip to Crewe and another stern test for our new management pairing.
Gresty Road is never an easy place to take home the points from.
Former Claret Steve Davis will be looking for all three points and a chance to leapfrog Stanley in the league.
We need to remain focused and not let the last couple of results dwell too long in the mind.
We are a good team and, on our day, we are capable of beating anyone in the league.
We have had our blip, now it’s time to get back to business as usual please!
