WILPSHIRE rally driver Matt Griffin claimed a class victory in his first event of 2012 at the Wyedean Forest Rally.
The 21-year-old was first in the BTRDA N3 class at the Gloucestershire event at the weekend after switching to a Ford Fiesta SF for this year.
The car was again prepared by RallySchool and Griffin, who last year won the junior section of the MSA English Rally Cham-pionship and the 1400L class in the BTRDA Championship, finished 77th overall at the Wyedean Forest Rally alongside new co-driver Chris Spilstead.
Freezing conditions made driving hazardous but Griffin said: “It’s a great start to our BTRDA Championship.
“The conditions on the Wyedean meant it was more important to finish rather than go fast and bin the car.”
Finances could mean Griffin misses the next round of the BTRDA series next month, but he is due to return at the Somerset Stages Rally on April 21.
