LEE Grant says Burnley have a point to prove against Southampton – but they will be looking for three from St Mary’s today.

It has been all or nothing on the road this season for the Clarets, who have yet to record an away draw in 14 attempts.

Form books suggest that could change this afternoon, as a side with a strong home record meets a team that has been fearless on their travels.

But as Grant prepares to make amends for conceding a late equaliser to Saints at Turf Moor in September, he won’t settle for anything less than building on their eight away wins.

“It’s going to be tough and probably a point would be a good result for us, but we’re not really going to settle for that. We’re going to look to go down there and cause them as many problems as possible,” said the goalkeeper.

“We were obviously disappointed not to get three points in the home game so we certainly want to put that right down at their place.

“They’ll have that arrogance about them considering they’ve been riding high at the top all season. They very rarely lose at their ground so they might be expecting three points, but we’ll certainly have other ideas on Saturday.

“Obviously they have been doing very well up to this point of the season.

“They’re riding high and it’s well documented the financial prowess that they’ve got and the money they’ve put in and the new players they’ve got.

“Billy Sharp is going to bolster their attacking options.

“We know it’s going to be hard for us down there, not many teams have come away with anything for the last 12 months at St Mary’s. But we’ve been very strong away from home and there’s no reason why we can’t go down there and try to continue that form.”

Southampton have occupied the automatic promotion places all season.

In late November the gap between them and Burnley was 18 points. Although that has since been reduced to eight, and would shrink to five points with another away win, Grant insists they are not yet considering catching the second-placed side.

“I wouldn’t say that’s in my mind. For us it’s finishing as high up the league as possible. I’d say a top six finish is definitely what we’re aiming for. Anything above and beyond that would be a bonus obviously,” he said.

“We’ve got to set our sights on the top six, I feel that’s where this club belongs.

“What we’ve put in over the last few weeks it’s really where we deserve to be. That’s what we’ll strive for.”
