ACCRINGTON Stanley have not yet given up hope of Saturday’s home game against Oxford United going ahead – but Tuesday’s trip to Rotherham is already in doubt.

Stanley’s Lancashire Senior Cup tie against Wigan was called off in midweek because of a frozen pitch at the Crown Ground and the Reds have been waiting for the pitch to defrost before putting the covers on, which they hope will give Saturday’s match a good chance of taking place.

Temperatures are forecast to remain around the zero mark until the weekend but Stanley will be keen for the game to be on as they bid to further assess caretaker manager Leam Richardson.

The Reds are due to travel to Rotherham in another League Two fixture on Tuesday and the Millers admit the game is already in doubt because of conditions at their temporary home, the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

“We are concerned about next Tuesday as the forecast is still not great,” chief operating officer Paul Douglas said.

“We have still got snow on the covers at Don Valley but once the snow has melted we will get the covers off and give the pitch some air.

“But the forecast for the next few nights here is to be cold so we don’t want to leave it too exposed.

“We are a little bit worried, but we are hopeful it will go ahead.”
