TERRY Pashley has urged his young Clarets to have “no regrets” as they bid for a place in the FA Youth Cup quarter finals tonight.

Burnley’s youth team take on West Bromwich Albion youth at the Hawthorns (kick-off 7pm), with the added incentive of a trip to Manchester City or Fulham if they make the last eight of the competition for the first time in over 30 years.

But youth coach Pashley insists they are not getting too ahead of themselves.

“We have a job to do and the next round will look after itself if we are fortunate to get there,” said Pashley, whose side earned a 3-1 home win over Ipswich Town in the last round.

“It’s a case of having no ifs and buts. It’s important we have a real good go and there are no regrets and no comebacks. Win, lose or draw it’s important we know we’ve done everything we possibly can.

“The lads are really looking forward to it, and so am I. I firmly believe if they perform to their capabilities it gives us every chance of getting a positive result.

“But it gives us a gauge of where we’re up to in terms of the quality we’ve got at the football club.

“We believe we’ve got a good bunch of players with this squad, hopefully they can go on and make good careers for themselves, but at this moment in time it’s still about their learning and their development, playing in big games on the major grounds. That’s a great learning curve for them.”

Preparations have been hampered by sub zero temperatures, which have forced them to train largely indoors last week, while the young Clarets have played only one game since their fourth round win over Ipswich last month.

They were knocked out of the Youth Alliance Cup by Notts County on penalties a fortnight ago, ending a run of 13 straight wins.

“We felt we’d done enough to win the game, but that’s what the cup’s about, you get one chance and we know that’s what we’ve got tonight,” said Pashley.
