BURNLEY have handed John Mullin a full-time coaching role in their youth system – but Vince Overson has now left the club after a period of gardening leave.

Mullin, who had two spells with the Clarets as a player, had been coaching part time in the club’s centre of excellence after retiring from football in 2010 following a period at Accrington Stanley.

The 36-year-old former Burnley youth team graduate, who is currently studying for his UEFA A licence, will now work full time as the co-ordinator of players between five and 11.

"John is someone who came through the system and is a perfect advert for what we are all about in the youth department," said acting head of youth Jason Blake.

The Clarets had a reshuffle in their youth set-up following the announcement of the new Elite Player Performance Plan in English football, which allows Premier League clubs to take emerging players from Football League sides for a fraction of the price they would previously have paid.

Director of youth development Martin Dobson left the club at the end of his contract in October and centre of excellence manager Overson, a fellow former Burnley player, was put on gardening leave.

Overson had been a full-time member of the youth set-up since 2004 but the Clarets have confirmed that he has now officially departed.
