JAY Rodriguez’s superb solo goal earned Burnley a late point at home to Peterborough United in freezing conditions at Turf Moor.

The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Paul Taylor dispossessed Ben Mee and surged clear before lashing past Lee Grant.

But Rodriguez levelled with three minutes left as he picked up the ball near the halfway line and darted forward, turning inside Mark Little and firing into the far corner.

David Ball had struck the inside of the post for Peterborough shortly after the opener, having taken advantage of hesitancy between David Edgar and Michael Duff.

Ross Wallace and Charlie Austin both had efforts saved, but the Clarets were far from their best form in the first half and George Boyd fired wide from a good position for Peterborough.

Burnley improved in blizzard conditions after the interval and Jay Rodriguez saw a long-range effort deflected into the side netting and also fired wide from Josh McQuoid’s centre.

Chris McCann put a free header over from Kieran Trippier’s free kick and the Clarets then had a strong penalty appeal turned down in the closing stages as Mark Little appeared to block Wallace’s shot with his arm.

McCann then fired over from a Wallace cross before Rodriguez made it 1-1.

Wallace then had a late effort saved but the game ended all square.
