ACCRINGTON Stanley have asked for permission to speak to Paul Cook about their vacant manager’s job – but caretaker boss Leam Richardson remains in pole position for the role.

Stanley have been impressed by Richardson since he took temporary charge following John Coleman’s exit to Rochdale last week and are keen to give him the opportunity to secure the job, providing he is able to build on Saturday’s win over Gillingham.

But the Reds are also assessing other options, should results suffer a downturn, and have now asked Irish side Sligo for permission to talk to Cook.

The 44-year-old played for both Stanley and Burnley and was also first-team coach at the Crown Ground for a period.
