KEITH Andrews has fired a damning parting shot at the Venky’s Blackburn Rovers regime after insisting the club was only heading in one direction – down.

The Republic of Ireland international is set to make his West Bromwich Albion debut against Swansea tomorrow, after quitting Ewood on Tuesday, and admits he couldn’t wait to get out of there.

Andrews insists Rovers wanted him to stay but he was prepared to rip up his Ewood contract in order to earn a fresh start elsewhere – even though it meant signing just a short term deal with the Baggies.

Andrews said: “There had been a lot of interest throughout January but I don’t think the way Blackburn dealt with things helped because it was very hard for me or other clubs to get a straight answer out of them.

“There was sheer relief at having finally cut my ties at Blackburn. Even if the window had shut without me having got a move somewhere, I would have looked to have gone out on loan because I couldn’t stay there.”
