STEVE Kean is eager to keep his transfer targets a closely-guarded secret after being informed of his January budget.
And he had no desire yesterday to draw Blackburn Rovers into the debate about David Beckham’s future.
Kean has now been told by owners Venky’s how much he will have to spend during the transfer window but, although reports have suggested that his transfer kitty will be in the region of £10m, the Scot is remaining tight-lipped.
Rovers have been linked with United States international midfielder Robbie Rogers – a 24-year-old who plays for MLS side Columbus Crew - and there was also brief speculation over whether they would consider repeating last year’s brief pursuit of Beckham, who is available on a free transfer at the end of his current deal with LA Galaxy.
All the indications suggest Beckham is now set to choose between staying with LA Galaxy or joining Paris Saint Germain, having waved away any interest from the Premier League.
Kean said: “I wouldn’t like to speculate or comment on any names at this stage because it would be unfair to any player.
“We’ll just do our business on the private side. There’s a few on the list and I’m sure that we’ll be linked to a number of players.
“What I’d like to do is get a couple of bodies in and get them in early because we don’t want it to drag on until the tail end of the window.
Confirming he now knew his budget, he said: “Yes, but I’ll be keeping that away from other clubs.
“I’ve got a list, I’ll be speaking to the owners in the next three or four days, and we’re looking to bring in some fresh faces and some quality in the window.”
