BURNLEY coach Getty Schinkel has praised prop-turned-centre Billy Ingham for another match-winning performance in the 23-12 win over Garstang.

Following his 10-point haul in Windermere last weekend – which included a try, conversion and penalty – Ingham was at it again as Burnley made it back-to-back win for the first time this season.

The front row forward, who is playing in midfield due to a chronic shortage of backs, scored another try, two conversions and slotted over three penalties in a personal haul of 18 points at Holden Road.

“Billy used to play at number 10 once upon a time so he is a very skilful player,” said Schinkel. “We have struggled really badly this season with injuries, especially with our back line.

“So I challenged Billy to come to training, get a bit of fitness and help us out in the backs.

“In fairness he has done a great job for us. He has always had the ability to score tries but usually as a prop. But now he is doing that from the backs.”

Schinkel was again full of praise for his side’s defensive qualities.

Burnley at one stage were down to six in the pack with two players in the sin-bin but still managed to win a scrum against the head on their own line – it proved to be a turning point.

“The lads are now putting their bodies on the line which is great to see.

“They were superb last week up in Windermere where we really got a bit of a battering and Garstang did the same.

“But we defended well, kept them out and got the win.”

Ben Healey also scored for Burnley who climb up to 10th place, one above Bolton who they go to on Saturday,.

“It is a winnable game but a tough game,” added Schinkel.
