JAYDEN Stockley, a former protege of Burnley boss Eddie Howe, says he is keen to emulate the success of Bournemouth team-mate Michael Symes at Accrington Stanley.

Stockley made his Stanley debut as a substitute in the weekend win over Bristol Rovers, after joining the Reds on a month’s loan from Bournemouth less than 24 hours before the game, and could now be involved in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Notts County.

The 18-year-old forward made his debut for the Cherries at the age of 15 during Howe’s time in charge of the club and he has spoken with former Stanley star Symes, who is now at Bournemouth.

“I took some advice from Michael Symes before I came,” Stockley told Stanley’s official website. “He’s a great lad and a great player as well and he gave me a lot of information about the place even down to where to stay.

“That’s helped me settle in well and if I can do as good a job as he did then I’ll be happy. The preparation wasn’t good before Saturday’s game. I got back at about one in the morning and that meant I was tired but hopefully I did my bit on the pitch.

“I’m looking forward to a full week’s training now, showing the manager what I can do and then a big FA Cup game next week that I’m delighted I can play in.”

Another former Stanley striker, Terry Gornell, was being linked with Leeds yesterday.
