ABBEY Hey completed the league double over Darwen but the home side should have got at least a share of the spoils after missing a second half penalty.
It was a much improved display from Kenny Langford’s side who had lost 6-1 in the away fixture earlier in the season.
And they showed great character to get back in to the game after getting off to a nightmare start with the visitors 2-0 up after barely 10 minutes.
Josh Westermorland fired Abbey in front before Jon Hardy converted from the spot.
Darwen were back in with a penalty of their own, Kieran Wood scoring after Bobby Langford was fouled.
Darwen keeper Adam Chester made two good saves early in the second half but after that they dominated and should have drawn level but Wood’s spot kick was saved by Jon McIlwaine.
In the closing stages, both Steve Lee and Ben Stanford got the ball past the keeper only for their efforts to be cleared off the line.
