SCOTT Dann insists there is no reason to panic after Blackburn Rovers’ worst start to a season for more than decade leaves them rock bottom of the Premier League.
The Rovers new boy believes Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers was a step in the right direction and is adamant it won’t be long before they are climbing the table.
With just five points from their first eight games of the season, Rovers haven’t had a worse start to a league campaign since 1996/97 when they had just three points at this stage of the campaign – culiminating in manager Ray Harford’s sacking.
But, with current boss Steve Kean coming under fire from sections of supporters, defender Dann has seen enough to suggest better times are just around the corner.
Dann said: “It is only early in the season. We know we have gone bottom of the table but there a few teams on the same points and a lot of teams around us. It is nothing to panic about at the moment.
“We won't be looking at the table but we know a win against Tottenham on Sunday would take us up the table. We will just be concentrating on getting the points though rather than looking at the table. You can’t look at it at this stage.
“We definitely believe we will climb the table sooner rather than later. Obviously we don’t like being at the bottom of the table and that is where we are at the moment.
“But we know what we need to do to put things right and I think Saturday’s performance showed we are heading in the right direction.”
Dann moved to Ewood Park from Birmingham on transfer deadline day for £7.7million but has yet to help Rovers keep a clean sheet as his partnership with Chris Samba takes time to settle.
There were signs at Loftus Road on Saturday the pair were growing together and, ahead of Sunday’s visit of Spurs, Dann is determined to stay positive.
He said: “I am really enjoying myself here. We have not had the best of results recently but with regards settling in with the lads and the manager I am really enjoying myself.
“Hopefully we can start creeping up that table sooner rather than later.
“Hopefully the fans can get behind us and if we can build on the performance we put in on Saturday then there is no reason why we can’t get the three points against Tottenham.”
