And they had to come from behind when Rick Maudsley desire to attack from inside his own 22 backfired when his attempted chip over the Egremont defence lacked height and John Musgrave had an easy run-in to the line.

It was after 20 minutes before Blackburn managed to spend any significant time in the Egremont half.

Sam Morgan appeared to have brought the sides level but the referee ruled he dropped the ball as he went to ground it.

It was Morgan’s last action as he limped off with a knee injury to be replaced by brother Adam.

Burn were eventually on level terms on the half hour mark when centre Anton Garcia powered his way over the try line from 10 metres out and the teams went in level at the break.

Egremont started the second half but Blackburn began to take the initiative although they couldn’t turn the pressure into points.

But they finally took the lead through a Phil Hesketh penalty followed by a second try from Steve Bibby after Adam Morgan delayed his pass perfectly.

Second row Damian Miller then helped set up Paul Millea who kept low to score in the corner.

Carlos completed the scoring with three of the nine tries converted to seal a convincing 51-14 win at Ramsgreave Drive.

Orrell had arrived on the back of a 73-10 win over Clittheroe.
