WHAT a breath of fresh air on Tuesday night! It was a cracking game and the atmosphere was white-hot.
To their credit, Barnsley played very well. For a side that has just come up from a lower division, they gave it a real go and played the right way.
But it was our night. From 2-0 down, we battled away and to win 4-2 showed exceptional character.
I told people at half-time that I would not be surprised if we took something out of the game.
Getting that goal just before half-time was important. We had to score and Jon Harley delivered a terrific free-kick.
Of course, the introduction of Gifton Noel-Williams was inspired. He's got a renewed enthusiasm for the game.
Gifton must have been very disillusioned on Saturday. Speaking to Steve Cotterill over the weekend, he said all Gifton needed was a goal. Steve has every faith and confidence in him.
The lad needed a goal - and low and behold he scores three!
Everybody wrote him off, but he's shown enormous character to bounce back.
Good luck to the lad. There's a long season ahead and I'm sure he wants to stay at Burnley. He's got to play for a contract. But he definitely provides something different in attack.
He gives us height with balls going across the penalty box. He will get on the end of crosses.
Plus he has that close-ball control, the ability to turn on a sixpence and get a shot on goal.
The biggest thing is contributing goals. Getting a hat-trick is the start for him and he was unlucky against Colchester with two terrific efforts including a great volley.
Gifton has done enough to perhaps start tomorrow's game at Stoke, but that is a decision for the manager.
I thought it was a great effort from our six front players. Across midfield, they were excellent. James O'Connor, Wade Elliott and Micah Hyde all showed exceptional work-rate.
From a specatator point of view, it was a terrific result and a terrific win.
Sat in the stand, you could see the joy and elation among the supporters.
I don't think anybody sat down for the last quarter of an hour.
It was a terrific atmosphere and that's what it should be like at Turf Moor for every home game.
Now the focus is on Stoke's Britannia Stadium, another ground we can get something from. Our away form has been good so far this season.
We should be going there with a lot of confidence and Steve will set up his side to come away with a result.
