BLACKBURN Rovers have confirmed that they turned down two bids for midfielder Steven Nzonzi on transfer deadline day.

The 22-year-old has attracted many admirers after impressing since his arrival at Ewood Park two years ago and Rovers boss Steve Kean yesterday revealed that a club made two offers in the hours before the deadline on Wednesday.

Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal have all been linked with Nzonzi in the past, although Kean was reluctant to reveal the club involved.

“There was a bit of interest for Steven,” said the Rovers boss.

“I don’t want to say which club but there were two bids that came in for Steven from the same club and we fought that off and managed to keep him.

“I think Steven’s got great quality and he’s improving all the time.

“He came back pre-season in fantastic condition, had a really strong pre-season and it’s no surprise that there are some big clubs interested in him.”
