STEVE Kean has told Blackburn Rovers fans ‘judge us now’ after insisting results will improve following key additions to the squad on the final day of the transfer window.

Rovers supporters have expressed their concerns after Kean’s side started the season with three straight defeats in the Premier League, their worst start to a campaign for 60 years.

But the Scot has brought in Scott Dann, Yakubu and Jordan Slew since Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Everton, with deals for the last two players finally confirmed by the FA yesterday after going right to the wire on deadline day.

Dann and Slew have both signed four-year deals, while Yakubu has penned a three-year contract.

Rovers started the season with a player shortage, particularly in defence with players absent through injury and illness, and Kean believes only now can the club’s results start to be fairly judged.

Simon Vukcevic is yet to make his debut after signing last week, while David Goodwillie, Radosav Petrovic, Bruno Ribeiro and Myles Anderson are also still settling in following moves.

“I think I’ve always said judge us at the end of the window,” said Kean, who jets to India today for his regular meeting with the club’s owners Venky’s.

“It was slow trying to get quality in but we’ve done that.

“I’m delighted for the owners and the fans that we could assemble a squad as strong as we have.

“I think the transfer window has been very good, very positive.

“There was always speculation that some of our quality was going to be leaving the club.

"That’s not happened, we’ve managed to keep the majority of the squad together and we’ve managed to add lots of quality on the last day – and the other business earlier in the window has all been excellent.

“Scott (Dann), Yakubu, Goodwillie, Petrovic, Vukcevic, we’ve made some marvellous signings.

“We’ve got another couple of young ones, Myles Anderson and the young lad from Sheffield (Slew). These are ones that will be for the future.

“When you look at the first couple of games it was difficult because we had most of our defenders injured.

“Now we can add because Scott is another defender, we’ve got Chris Samba, Gael Givet and Ryan Nelsen coming back so we’ve got lots of experience and quality that‘s all coming back at the same time.

“Then additions as well so I think that all bodes well for us having a real good go.

“Starting now I think we can genuinely put a team on the pitch with people that are fit and ready to really hit the ground running.

“I do think we should have the points on the board. If we play as well as we did against Everton, together with the additions we’ve now got and the lads coming back from injury, then I think we’ll be climbing the table very, very soon.”

Dann and Yakubu trained with their new team-mates for the first time yesterday, although a number of players are currently away on international duty with Rovers not back in action until their September 11 trip to Fulham.

The likes of Samba and Martin Olsson had been linked with moves away from the club in the summer but Kean was always eager to retain the bulk of his squad, although he did confirm yesterday that El-Hadji Diouf was released from his contract by mutual consent in the hours before the transfer deadline.

The Senegalese wide man had a year left on his Ewood deal but had fallen out of the first-team picture and is now free to find a new club in the days to come.

Rovers brought in three players on deadline day but also considered further options.

The representative of Celtic striker Georgios Samaras has said that both Blackburn and Sunderland spoke to the SPL club about a possible move, but the Greek did not want to make any hasty decisions about his future in the hours before the deadline and opted to stay at Parkhead.

Hapoel Tel Aviv full-back Omri Kende had also been linked with Rovers, but no deal was forthcoming.
