A week is a long time in politics but a very short time in the minds of some Stanley fans, although to be fair over the last seven days we have seen two completely different Stanley teams.

On Tuesday night we defeated ex-Premier League side Bradford and showed hard steel at the back.

The team had responded to the defeat against Southend in a very positive manner and it looked like we had turned a corner.

For Saturday’s defeat to come so soon after such a good display in the previous match only adds fuel to the faceless on the internet who seem determined to find a long and complicated reason for our below average start to this year’s campaign.

I am sticking to my original script that the team just has not had enough time to bond together yet. We had more new additions to the squad this week and, as with any new job, people need time to fit in.

Some of the regular comments that I hear are that it was obvious we would struggle this year (after four games this is a very premature argument), as we experienced the hangover from the play-offs last season.

If we had kept the same squad as last season would we have been beaten 4-1 at Port Vale? Who can say?

The answer though is probably not.

We are rebuilding in every area on and off the field at Stanley and we must all pull together to help. We are not a big enough club to survive if we all split into bickering camps and the focus must be on the future.

We may not reach the play-offs this season but we will upset a few teams once the newness has worn off the squad.

The share issue is a massive positive for the club and we can all do our bit, if not with the shares, then a pound a week on the weekly draw or a pint after the match in the clubhouse.
