PETER Jones has carried on his remarkable swimming success with more glory in the pool – winning a clutch of medals and setting new British records.

The Clitheroe swimmer, who appeared in the FINA World Masters Top Ten in no fewer than five events last year, took part in the Senior Age Groups and Masters Long Course Championships at Leeds.

Swimming in the 40-44yrs age group, Jones’ time of 1 min 03.11secs in the 100m Backstroke took .29 secs off his own British record recorded in Sweden at the World Masters Champion-ships last year.

He also took gold in the 50m backstroke and silver in the 200m backstroke.

Although, he tends to specialise in the backstroke events, Jones decided to have a go at the 50m freestyle and surprised himself by winning this event also in a PB time of 25.47 secs which was only .24 secs outside the British Record.

With only a week’s rest, Jones, who is a member of Clitheroe Dolphins and Clitheroe Masters, competed in the North West Masters Short Course Swimming Championships at Blackpool and won gold in every race he entered – namely the 50m and 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
