GREAT Harwood Otters Swim-ming Club is enjoying life in the fast lane since being promoted to the NELF First Division.

The club has shown that it isn’t trailing in the slip stream of its more established rivals recently returned from the Aquabears Summer Swimming Meet with its biggest ever medal haul.

The Otters won a staggering total of 35 medals – including 11 golds, 13 silvers and nine bronze.

The two-day competition was held at Broughton Pool in Salford where 20 Otters aged nine to 14-years-old took part.

“All our swimmers competed over both days at a consistently high level,” said coach Craig Lord. “All those training hours at our club really paid off. We had 75 personal bests set over the weekend.

“I don’t really like to single anyone out as there were some very pleasing, powerful swims achieved but special mention must go to Elliot Norman, Ellie Ward, Saffron Fenton, Lucy Alexander and Matthew Sharpe who produced some blisteringly fast swims.” Swimmers resposible for the club’s best ever result at a majoor competition were Jarvis Davies, Lucy Alexander, Madison Beswick, Eleanour Bolton, Megan Davidson, Saffron Fenton, Aaron Guy, Scott Davidson, Kara Layne, Elliot Norman, AlIce Roberts, Flynn O'Rourke, Emily Sharpe, Georgina Smith, Matthew Sharpe, George Taylor, Harvey Taylor, Ben Turland, Ellie Ward and Holly Williams n Any new swimmers who would either like to learn to swim or improve their swimming are invited to ring Joyce on 01254 884247 or Craig on 01254 351383 to arrange a free trial.
