JOHN Coleman will turn his attention to the other Accrington Stanley trialists playing for contracts after agreeing a deal for Kurtis Guthrie.

Stanley travel to Cammell Laird for a friendly tomorrow night but the Reds boss may make further decisions on players after a training match today.

“We’ve got a behind-closed-doors game so we should be finalising things by the end of that,” he said.

“To be fair to the players who are on trial, if you’re going to say no you’re better being told no early rather than later.”

Ex-Lincoln and Barnsley centre back Kern Miller, 20, made his first trial appearance in Saturday’s game along with wide man Alastair Taylor, 19, also formerly of Barnsley.

Scottish keeper Sean Murdoch - a 24-year-old previously with Hamilton - was another to feature as the Reds search for a replacement for Alex Cisak.

A number of last season’s squad got their first run-outs of pre-season – including Charlie Barnett and Leam Richardson, both yet to sign new contracts – in a fixture played at Morecambe because Stanley’s Crown Ground pitch is not yet ready.

Stanley also handed debuts to new signings Danny Coid and Kevin McIntyre, the midfielder who joined on Friday and featured at left back against Blackburn.

“Kevin is experienced, he’s been there and done it, he’s a good footballer with a great work ethic, and he suits our modus operandi,” said Coleman. “We played some great football in the game.

“I know it’s possible a bit false because the style of football Blackburn play won’t necessarily be what we encounter in League Two.

“But we’ve shown the type of football we want to play this year.”
