ACCRINGTON Stanley go into today’s pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers boosted by the signing of former Shrewsbury midfielder Kevin McIntyre.

Stanley take on Blackburn at 12.15pm at Morecambe’s Globe Arena, with Accrington’s Crown Ground playing surface not ready to host a game until the start of the new season.

A number of trialists are again expected to feature - possibly including Marlon Broomes, the 33-year-old former Blackburn centre back who has joined the club for training.

Stanley completed their second summer signing yesterday as 33-year-old McIntyre, who can also play at full back, penned a one-year deal following his release by Shrewsbury.

The left footer is likely to feature today along with 18-year-old Jersey striker Kurtis Guthrie, who impressed with a brace in his first trial game at Radcliffe on Wednesday.

“I hope I can press on and get myself a contract,” said Guthrie.

“I was born in Peterborough but I live in Jersey, and John’s mate lives there and he fancied me so sent me over for a trial.

“I’ve got two weeks here, and I’ve been here for a week so far. I want to try to take this opportunity with two hands.”
