ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman hopes he is close to completing his second signing of the summer as the club begin to contemplate offering deals to trialists.

Coleman, who has already signed former Blackpool defender Danny Coid, handed appearances to 15 trialists in their opening friendly of pre-season at Radcliffe on Wednesday and was impressed by a number of performances.

Jersey striker Kurtis Guthrie, who scored a brace at Radcliffe, only commenced his trial at the end of last week but former Wigan winger Jon Routledge and ex-Burnley centre backs Nik Kudiersky and Chris Lynch have now been with the club for a fortnight.

“I’m hoping to make at least one signing,” said Coleman of his imminent plans, with the boss also looking at external targets.

“We’ve had players training with us for the last 12 days but you can only judge them in a game.

“I thought everyone showed a great appetite (at Radcliffe) and there was a lot of good football played.”

Nine players from last season’s squad are now under contract, with Charlie Barnett still in talks and Leam Richardson likely to pen a short-term deal.
