KYLE Lafferty is hoping to forge a dream Northern Ireland partnership with hat-trick hero David Healy.

The 18-year-old Burnley striker looks sets for a glittering career on the international stage after making an impressive full debut in Wednesday's shock 3-2 Euro 2008 triumph over Spain.

Lafferty sported a giant sombrero in celebration of a famous night in Belfast, in which Clarets defender Michael Duff also starred at centre-back with Steve Jones an unused substitute.

The Enniskillen teenager - who has enjoyed a rapid rise through the Northern Ireland ranks - was delighted to be involved and is planning to team up with role model Healy again.

"It was a fantastic win, especially on the back of a poor result and performance against Iceland," said Lafferty.

"It was a great game with Healy being instrumental.

"The third goal was incredible and the manner in which David took it was top drawer stuff.

"He's a true professional and a great role model to look upon.

"His communication with me on the pitch is second to none and it would be wonderful if we can keep the partnership going for a while longer.

"Duffer had a good game and coped well against the Spanish frontline, in particular he kept (David) Villa fairly quiet.

"I've been receiving a lot of support and praise and want to thank everyone for this.

"It's terrific to receive good praise, but I just want to continue playing my football."

But after picking up a slight leg injury at Windsor Park, Lafferty may be forced to sit on the sidelines tomorrow as Burnley host Championship new-boys Colchester at Turf Moor.

Lafferty added: "I'm concentrating on the Colchester game, but unfortunately I've taken a knock on my leg and will have to undergo a late fitness test."
