STEVE Lee knows all about honouring the heroes of local amateur sport having spent years organising the Blackburn and District Sports Council annual awards.
And his one tip to anyone considering making a nomination is ‘Don’t leave it to someone else’.
Lee served as Sports Council secretary for 13 years and is still a committee member.
In that time, he has seen hundreds of honours dished out – many to promising youngsters who have gone on to fulfil their true potential at the highest level.
And he has also seen those rightly honoured for their commitment and loyalty to sport at grass roots level.
But in that time there have been countless examples of people or teams slipping through the net because they have not been put forward.
“The one thing you do find from time to time is that people might not be nominated because it has been left for someone else to do.
“If you think someone is deserving to be honoured for what they have done, then the best way to do so is make the nomination yourself.
“Awards like these and the Sports Council awards are a fantastic way of recognising the efforts put in by everyone involved in amateur sport at grass roots level.”
