THE chief executive of the Lancashire FA is in full support of the Grass Roots Heroes awards.
David Burgess is all to aware of the important role volunteers play in providing local amateur sport.
And he says awards to highlight those efforts can only be a good thing.
He said; “Grass roots volunteers are the cornerstone of football in the county, with over 80 per cent of all football played in Lancashire administered by the volunteer workforce.
“Without them we would have no game and as the game continues to develop through Charter Standard, the Respect Programme, Welfare and other initiatives, we ask more of the volunteers’ time.”
He added “To filter down awards to the local football volunteer is a great idea and I can think of no better way than through Grass Roots Heroes.
“It gives the community the opportunity to thank those who work tremendously hard behind the scenes and gain some recognition for the work they undertake.”
