THERE was a double ‘Mac attack’ on Burnley’s first day of pre-season training as young professional Alex MacDonald also signed a new deal.
The 21-year-old forward, who like Chris McCann progressed through the Turf Moor youth ranks, penned a 12-month contract yesterday.
And the Scotland Under 21 international is aiming to establish himself in the first team set up.
“I’m looking forward to this year and hopefully it will be the year to get back in amongst the first team, which is something I’m looking to do,” said MacDonald, who first broke into the side in 2008, but found opportunities limited after the Clarets won promotion to the Premier League.
“I had a taste of it when I was younger here and that’s something I want back, especially at this football club. This is where I wanted to be. “The manager has shown that he is going to give the young lads a chance so hopefully this will be the year for me.”
MacDonald hit the goal trail in Burnley’s second string last season before spending a second loan spell in the Scottish Premier League.
The striker teamed up with Inverness Caledonian Thistle for the last four months of last season, after previously being loaned out to Falkirk during the 2009/10 campaign.
