LANCASHIRE League legend David Pearson says he is truly proud that his son is following in his footsteps – and hopes to be able to play on long enough to take to the field with Lewis in a senior game.

The East Lancashire opening batsman, the second highest run scorer in Lancashire League history, played every level of age group cricket for Lancashire and now Lewis has won selection for the Red Rose U11s team.

And he made a winning debut on Saturday as Lancashire beat Wales at Llandudno’s Rydal School.

Pearson said: “I am really proud of Lewis, it is a big thing to be picked for Lancashire at any age.

“He is in the under 11s and hopefully he can go on in the game.

"When I was his age there was no under 11 cricket, it started at under 13s and I played at that level onwards.

“They had a good start on Saturday as they beat Wales - and it is the first time they have beaten Wales in five years so everyone was very pleased.”

Lewis is a key member of the East Lancashire U11s team and also represents the club’s U13 team – but his dad is hoping he will continue his progress so they can take to the field together.

Pearson went through the 15,000-run mark earlier this season and is second on the league all-time list behind Haslingden legend Mike Ingham.

And the 48-year-old is keeping his fingers crossed that progress will come in time for the pair to play together.

“Obviously Lewis is too young now,” he said. “But in three or four years he could well be old enough and good enough to get in – but whether I would be able to play then, I don’t know.

“It might mean playing in the second team with him – but I would hope that I can play at least one game with him.”
