With all-conquering Clitheroe having sewn up the Senior Division championship, Padiham are leading the race for second place.

Padiham defeated Baxenden to strengthen their grip on the runners up spot with Whalley and Blackburn Northern winning in the other surviving matches.

But with just one match to go, the Arbories side are in the box seat to take the runners up spot from Settle and Baxenden.

And Padiham skipper Andy Robinson says they won't be taking Saturday's opponents, Barnoldswick, lightly.

He said: "Barnoldswick knocked us out of the Ramsbottom Cup so we'll play them with a point to prove.

"But our destiny is in our own hands and we have to make sure we're on our game.

"Barnoldswick won't be pushovers but to finish second would be a fantastic achievement.

"Clitheroe were favourites, but with two former professionals playing as amatuers, they were always going to be the team to beat so to finish second will feel like we have won the league.

"If we can finish second then we can go into next season with a huge amount of confidence.

"I'd like to think that we can challenge for the league title next year. We might be a strike bowler short but you never know what can happen over the close season."

With the Senior League trophy in the bag it didn't matter to Clitheroe they couldn't play on either day.

Lee Kearsley made an unbeaten 102 against Great Harwood as Whalley beat their visitors by 34 runs.

Elsewhere, Blackburn Northern beat Edenfield by one wicket.

The title races in Divisions one and two are also reaching their exciting conclusions And despite a rain-soaked weekend another trophy has been decided.

Newcomers Brinscall celebrated their first season in the league by winning the second division title.

The former Chorley and District side was one of the few to beat the weather.

And an eight-wicket victory over Burnley Belvedere ensured champagne corks were popping at School Lane.

Ian Chaplin took seven wickets as Burnley Belvedere were dismissed for 93. Then Phil Lowe hit 58 to see the home team win with plenty to spare.

That leaves just the Division One title to be sorted out.

Salesbury and Burnley Belvedere both gained full points to ensure the race could go down to the final weekend.

Daniel Young's 60 was crucial as Belvedere eventually beat Blackburn Northern by just five runs in a rain-affected fixture.

Salesbury piled up 202 for the loss of only two wickets before declaring against Baxenden. In-form John Wharton hit an unbeaten century before the visitors collapsed to 78 all out. Peter Blackman took 6-46.

At the foot of the table, both Oswaldtwistle Immanuel and Baxenden are both struggling to avoid the drop with two games left.

The final games are played on September 16.
