FATHER and son motorcycle racers Nigel and Ben Rea had a great weekend at the Three Sisters circuit last weekend.
Last Sunday’s Preston and District Motorcycle Club Championship second round race meeting at the Wigan circuit Wigan saw Nigel secure a podium finish on a borrowed Kawasaki to move to second in the championship standings.
He then finished runner-up in the 650 Twin class race to take the lead in that series.
Ben did even better, winning the rookie class despite having to compete with a road engine as his bike’s race engine is undergoing a rebuild.
He also set a new class lap record of 59 seconds and now heads the championship’s rookie class standings.
The pair were in Aintree Championship action the previous weekend and they both recorded top five finishes.
This was sufficient for Nigel to maintain his fourth place overall in the series.
Ben survived an overshoot after braking from 150mph during the Formula 600 race whilst in third place and challenging for second.
The incident saw him finish eighth but he still holds second place in the Steel Frame 600 Championship standings.
