ONE of East Lancashire’s longest running boxing clubs has written a new chapter in to it’s history by changing its name.

And newly named Blackburn with Darwen Police Amateur Boxing Club held its first show under the new banner – inviting fighters across the North West to Audley Sports Centre.

And it was a night of mixed forutnes for the host club who had seven fighter in action.

Hassan Khan, 12, was up against Gary Johnson from Carlisle Villa and he soon had the home crowd cheering with some impressive boxing – switching styles from orthodox to south paw to confuse his Carlisle opponent.

It was Hassan’s back hand that paid dividends, catching his opponent every time he threw it and, in the end he won by judges’ unanimous decision.

Talented Naheem Chaudhry was paired with Kieran Bailey from Middleton Select and he impressed against a strong opponent who kept coming forward.

But Naheem, 15, kept Bailey at bay by counter punching with his very accurate stiff jab.

By the end of the three rounds Naheem won on the judges’ majority decision much to every-body’s surprise who thought he had clearly beaten his opponent by a unani-mous decision . Usman Hussain was making his first appearance since being stopped in his last home show due to a nose bleed.

The 17-year-old had been out of action every since due to getting his nose done.

But he showed little ring rust, starting brightly against S Horton from Paramount ABC from Stockport.

In the third round, Hussain piled on the pressure and a three punch combination force a standing count before the referee stepped in to stop the contest following another sustained period of pressure.

Dominic Fenton, 16, was making his debut Harry Campbell but the Natbridge ABC fighter from Leyland proved to be too strong, stopping Fenton in the first round.

Asad Barlas, 15, boxed against J Price from Larches ABC in Preston and lost on a stoppage in the last round . And 14-year-old Aqib Yousaf also lost by unanamous points to Liam Garmory from Chorley.

But Waqar Khan was unlucky not to have won following a fine display in the ring.

The 17-year-old Blackburn with Darwen fighter appeared to have done enough to get the decision against Tawfik Ali from Bolton Elite.

But it was Ali got the judges’ majority decision – much to the surprise off all those watching.

“Overall it was a very good perfor-mance by all the new fighters,” said coach Yaqoob Hussain.

“I am very satisfied by the display as the lads are gelling well together as a team. Next season will be interesting as all these boxers would have matured and am sure they will make a name for themselves.”

The newly named club received new kit which has been sponsored by Eon Enery Solutions UK.
