TYRONE Mears is not a target for Bolton Wanderers.

The right back is the second Burnley player this summer, after Chris McCann, to be tipped for a reunion with Owen Coyle.

But the Lancashire Telegraph understands the 28-year-old is prepared to see out the final year of his contract at Turf Moor and be part of the Clarets’ latest promotion push.

Mears was expected to move on in the last two transfer windows, following relegation from the Premier League, so it was no surprise when his name was again linked with top flight clubs this summer.

Coyle recruited the former West Ham and Derby County defender on a three-year deal with the Clarets after winning promotion via the play-offs in 2009, and Mears became a star performer under the Scot in the early stages of that campaign.

Coyle backed him for an England call-up.

The Chadderton-born full back grew increasingly unsettled after Burnley headed straight back to the Championship.

However, with just 12 months remaining on his contract I understand it is more likely that he will leave on a free transfer NEXT summer.

While Coyle is looking to strengthen his squad, sources close to the Reebok Stadium do not believe the right back spot is a priority.
