CLASS act Kamran Younas bowled a huge hole into Baxenden’s Ribblesdale League title hopes with an outstanding display as form team Whalley made it six wins on the spin in all competitions at Whalley Road.

The Pakistani claimed 6-56 to shatter Bash, who had threatened a comeback win despite being on the ropes at 117-8 chasing a target of 159.

Andy Caunce’s men needed 25 off the final two overs - and astonishingly took 17 off the penultimate over to set-up a grandstand finish.

But Younas bowled Liam Riley with the first delivery of the 45th over – and it was game over.

Earlier Younas had survived being dropped at slip off Stephen Molloy and went on to make 33.

Mark Fallon’s 34 and an unbeaten 26 from Declan Fitzhenry helped Whalley set their testing target and when David O’Neill had Naeem caught by Fitzhenry with the score on 34, the balance of the game swung back into their favour.

Mark Rishton made 26 and David Mills hit 23 to aid Bash – but they were in trouble once Mills fell with 29 needed.

Bash’s advantage has been cut to three points as Barnoldswick and Read closed in with victories.

Barlick took full advantage of Salesbury playing without a pro, dismissing the home side for just 75 with Jaffar Nazir on fire.

He claimed 8-35 as Salesbury were skittled before Barlick crashed home in quick time with just two wickets down, while Read enjoyed an easy win over struggling Edenfield.

Greg Smithson’s men were coasting at 55-0 from 10 overs – but the introdiction of Will Driver and Warren Eastham to the attack wrecked their day.

Driver bowled marvellously to return 5-35 from 18 overs and Edenfield closed on 123-9. That was no test for Read.

Earby are fifth after beating Clitheroe. Ali Azmat (58) and Craig Walton (56) helped Earby to 183-8 and despite 50 from Junaid Nadir, Clitheroe fell short.

Andreas Sudnik, Joe Bolton and Dan Lord each claimed three wickets as Cherry Tree bowled Ribblesdale Wanderers out for 102 – and Mark Hadfield’s 30 and 26 from Paul Turner eased them to a four-wicket win, while Great Harwood had a fine day at Oswaldtwistle. Syed Shahabuddin found a green track to his liking as he claimed 6-21 to bowl Immanuel out for 73.

Only Imran Abid (28) and Paul Dignan (14) made double figures and Russell Whalley’s blistering half-century saw Harwood home.

Whalley hit five sixes and four fours on his way to 52 not out.

Max Howells claimed four wickets as Padiham restricted Settle to 162-8 – but John Bushell’s men had to dig deep to get home.

Chris Holt made 45 and Callum Clarke made 31 but Padiham were wobbling until Steve Meehan (16 not out) and Kurt Robinson (11 not out) saw them to a two-wicket win.
