THE rain came down to wreck yesterday's Lancashire League programme with all seven games called off by early afternoon.

A bright and sunny morning gave way to heavy rain across the area by noon – and there was no chance of play at any of the grounds.

It meant frustration for teams and fans and for new Rawtenstall professional, Sri Lankan Nilantha Cooray.

Cooray had been due to land in time for Friday night's Twenty20 game at Bacup but was delayed once again.

However, he landed on Saturday and was due to debut in the Seedhill clash with in-form Nelson until the weather played it decisive hand and delivered a rare total washout of the programme.

The games will now be played on Saturday, July 16.

Meanwhile, Brian Bennett and Ian Laurence will take charge of this season's showpiece Worsley Cup final.

The League Executive took the decision to name the officials for the final and semi-finals yesterday.

Bernard Reidy and Barry Evans will stand in the Todmorden v Ramsbottom semi final while David Whitehead and Duncan Warburton will take charge of the last-four game between Church and Nelson.

Mike Bibby and Peter Hargreaves will umpire the Lancashire Telegraph Trophy Final.

On Friday night Church went to the top of the Twenty20 Group A as they beat East Lancashire at Alexandra Meadows after bowling the home side out for just 100.

The other Group A game saw Enfield beat Rishton by seven wickets.

In Group B, Paul Gallagher made 62 as Edenfield beat Haslingden by 10 wickets, Bacup beat Rawtenstall and Lowerhouse beat Colne in Group C.

Todmorden eased past Burnley in the other Group C game.
