BURNLEY are believed to have joined a group of Championship clubs in the chase for Barnsley captain Jason Shackell’s signature.
Derby County have so far had two offers turned down for the central defender, who was also due for talks with Portsmouth, after ex-Burnley boss Steve Cotterill was reported to be ready to make him his first summer signing in a £1million deal.
New Barnsley manager Keith Hill is, however, reluctantly more open to the prospect of the 27-year-old moving on.
“Jason's away on holiday and we're talking to him when he returns,” said the former Rochdale boss.
“If a player wants to leave it's best for both parties to amicably part.
“He's a high-calibre player and is one of the best centre backs in the Championship.
“He has two years on his contract, so if he leaves it won't be on the cheap.”
