If recent results are anything to go by, Billington father and son motorcycle racers Nige and Ben Rea are in championship winning form this season.
The Rocket Centre-backed duo have been racking up the points with some impressive perform-ances, including a recent weekend double-header. Ben debuted a Honda 600 at Aintree and only failed to make a winning start by a 60th of a second – but he consoled himself by claiming family bragging rights as Nige had to settle for fourth.
The following day at Three Sisters, Wigan, Nige put his previous experience of the track to good use with victory in the 650 class, and finishing second in the final.
On his first visit to the track, Ben showed he was a force to be reckoned with – after mastering the wet conditions he claimed third place podium finishes in both rookie class races before winning both SF600 races.
A proud Nige said: “Ben’s race wins were outstanding given his limited experience and time on the bike. We now hope he can progress and feature well in the local championships.”
The pair are back in the Aintree Championship action this Saturday but Ben’s hopes of more Merseyside success have taken a knock, particularly as the series is made up of only five meetings.
With his highly-tuned race engine undergoing a re-build, the 18 year-old is being forced to use a standard road engine, putting him at a severe disadvantage in the power stakes.
He also faces the prospect of contesting the second round of the Preston and District Motorcycle Club Championship, in which he heads the Steel Frame 600 class, at Three Sisters, the following weekend under similar circumstances.
