Egyptian defender Wael Gomaa could be on his way to Blackburn Rovers after spending time on trial with the club last week.
The six-foot plus 30-year-old, who plays with Egyptian champions Al-Ahil, was linked with a move to Blackburn as well as Newcastle, Tottenham, Reading and Bolton.
But Rovers chairman John Williams said there isn't any possibility of a deal being done until the transfer window re-opens in January.
"Mark is a great lover of trialists and there will be a number of them come and go.
"The idea of them being invited to join in training is excellent because you get to see the player at close hand, at the office as it were.
"He (Gomaa) came over but his club really wanted to keep him until Christmas. We had a look at him and we may try to get him back for a period between now and then."
And Gomaa was confident he did enough to impress Hughes.
He said: "I left Al-Ahil with the intention only of moving in January.
"Blackburn have seen me and said good things about me."
