MELLOR race ace John Holden is revved up for tomorrow’s second Isle of Man Sidecar TT – and reckons if the race around the Mountain Course is anywhere near as good as Saturday’s opener it will be a treat.
Holden and passenger Andy Winkle were beaten into second spot by the brilliant Klaus Klaffenbock and Dan Sayle in one of the greatest TTs ever as the two teams constantly jostled for position throughout each of the three 37.73-mile laps.
And while Holden had to settle for second, he took so much from the race – and wants more tomorrow.
“We may not have won but that was one of the best TT races I have ever been involved in, it was a race against the clock but also on the road against Klaffi,” said Holden.
“It was such fun and I couldn’t believe the battle we were having, of course it was a bit frustrating to be stuck behind – but you have to enjoy it at the end of the day.”
Ahead of tomorrow’s race, Holden has the fastest recorded time around the course by a sidecar this year after his third lap was completed in a blistering average speed of 114.861mph.
He added: “To do the fastest lap of the week during the race is a nice achievement but of course we would have preferred to have brought home the overall win.”
n Derek Brien, 34, from County Meath in Ireland was killed during the first Supersport TT yesterday following a high speed accident at Gorse Lea.
