DARWEN turned it on for the ladies on Saturday as they stormed to a stunning win over Lancaster on a special day at Birch Hall.

The match was dedicated as Ladies Day as the Towers celebrate their centenary season – and it was a top effort from the locals to claim the honours.

Lancaster reached 177-6 with openers Michael Stevens and Zac Godfrey-Plews posting 73 for the first wicket and Lee Sparks hitting an unbeaten 41 off 33 balls with Kamran Anwar running out pro Dwayne Hees for 11.

Darwen’s Alex Davies hit 55 off 82 balls to help his side recover from the early loss of opener Niall Burke and professional Mohammad Zaman Khan.

Skipper John Cordingley hit an unbeaten 31 and steered his side home in partnership with elder brother Gareth who was 15 not out at the close after middle brother Neil had made 25 alongside Chris Clarke’s 25.
