AN historic part of the Ewood Park football turf has been dug-up and is being offered for sale.
Quick-thinking fan Eddie Maxwell secured permission to take two sections of the Blackburn Rovers pitch in a bid to raise money for his Sunday League side King Edward FC Guide.
He dug up the centre and Darwen end penalty spots, where Wayne Rooney scored his Premier League-securing penalty this month.
Mr Maxwell, who works in Blackburn with Darwen Council’s parks department, took his chance with the request before re-surfacing work began.
Mr Maxwell said the role of the penalty spot in Manchester United’s record-breaking 19th league title meant there could be a lot of interest.
The dad-of-two, from Lower Darwen, said: “I just thought, if you don’t ask you don’t get. They were happy for me to take it because it was all being dug up anyway.
“At first I was just thinking of taking the centre spot because any Rovers fan would be interested in that but then after the Manchester United match I wanted the penalty spot as well.
"It is a piece of football history – maybe Rooney would be interested in buying it.
“I just thought this was a great way to help the club.”
The two sections of turf are in planters at the home he shares with partner Julie and children Ben, 17, and Bethany, 10, and went up for sale on eBay last night.
